A collection of lifestyle and fashion posts by Matthew & Sue Ellen

Hey guys sorry long time no write! Now that it’s summer Matt and I will be able to post a lot more often. (:
The overalls are actually pretty old, they belonged to my sister who wore them in high school like ten years ago! After that they just sat in her closet  until I decided to give them a new life. I like that they’re pretty fitted and the color of the denim is amazing. I also love how there are so many pockets but it doesn’t look bulky. They started out as full-length overalls but I cut and folded them into shorts. I like how young spirited they are so I wanted to extend that with the rest of the outfit. I added a bright blue and white striped shirt underneath. I added black tights because I felt that bare legs would be a bit too childish. I finished the look with my go-to Keds. (:

I’ve found myself wearing polos and wind breakers a lot lately. I love the look of it and the simplicity yet retro look. This look is a tad bit old since at the time I was still wearing the Lacoste Live polo. As you can see I had to wear a shirt underneath as the polo was just a bit to short. Luckily I was able to give it to Sue Ellen and it fits her pretty good.

Here are the Valentines Day entry looks we did for Lookook. We recently just picked up playing tennis. Which we’ve yet to actually even play a real game. We’re just trying to get the basics and feel for it down and although we may not be very good, we still have a great time playing. Matching tennis looks worked as entries because we saw it as something a couple would do. The looks match without screaming twins or looking like a costume. Lucky for us we found ourselves some great Lacoste polos to complete the look and feel of a traditional tennis outfit. Best part of all we we’re able to get them for only $7 and $15 each!

Sue is wearing: Lacoste Live polo, Walmart skirt, Kmart socks, Keds sneakers, Timex watch.

Matthew is wearing: Lacoste polo, American Apparel shorts, Aldo sneakers, Casio watch.

This outfit began with these great leggings that I had been searching high and low for. I knew I wanted a space print and that I didn’t want to pay an arm and a leg for them so when I found these for $20, it was an opportunity I could not pass up! I love the dark navies and bright blues mixed together to create a beautiful print. I added an over-sized dark navy sweater that Matthew had given me to keep the eye focused on the gorgeous print. I topped the outfit off with these awesome creepers from H&M which were under twenty dollars! I like the low platform and how they can kind of appear to be just black loafers. They were a great buy because I wanted a cute pair of creepers but didn’t want to spend a ton of money on them (:

Matthew gave me this gorgeous sweater for Christmas! I love the thick knit pattern and the peachy color is my favorite. Underneath the sweater I added a light blue denim button down, for extra warmth but also because I really like how the peach and light blue colors look together and how the collar and coattails peek out from underneath the sweater. Then I added tight black pants to add a darker color to the outfit and keep it from looking boxy. As for shoes, I paired some knit grey socks (pushed down) and my favorite black pixie boots C: It was pretty cold out when we were taking pictures but I was actually very warm! (:

oscararellano asked: i was wondering what size matt got for the american apparel flannel lined rain parka because idk what size to get. the sizes come in small/medium and large/xlarge. Im 5-11' and i weigh 170 pounds. any help would be great. thank you.

I got the s/m and it fits pretty great. I would say it is a tad tight in the arm pit area but nothing to extreme. I’m still able to layer under it and move around comfortably. I’m 6’1” and 135. I would say the l/xl would probably fit you pretty well. Have you seen just the regular rain parka? It seems like a great piece to throw over your outfit if you’re just looking for a water resistant jacket rather than a touch of warmth.

A few ne items featured in this look. I’m surprised how soft American Apparel can get their pique fabric to be. At first I wasn’t very interested in the pique pullover. I thought i’d rather just have the usual jumper or knit sweater. I gave the pullover a go and eventually started liking it more and more. It’s a pretty good weight for what it actually is. Sometimes it’s a great middle layer depending on how cold it is. The thinness of it works out well when bundling up.
This is also the first outfit post I have featuring my new denim backpack. Down below you can read up on it. It’s a solid piece so far.
Flannel Lined Rain Parka in navy by American Apparel.

I recently just purchased this jacket from American Apparel a couple of weeks ago. I knew right away it would be a piece I would want to feature in this series. I wanted to wait a while before posting another item but since it being a jacket and the cold approaching (arrived in many places) I thought it would be a good time to post it. At first I didn’t believe it would work to well being water repellent but when I spilt some water on it, it definitely proved me wrong. I wore it the other day we were getting some snow while riding my bike around doing some errands. It was definitely keeping me dry then too.  The jacket does a pretty good job on keeping you warm as well. It doesn’t breather and the flannel lining ads a little extra warmth to it all. I definitely recommend this jacket. I’ve yet to try the regular rain parka but I think I may get it come monsoon season if needed.

Now that I’m finally settled in my new place I’ve had the chance to find a new spot to take some outfit photos. I was trying my room to my kitchen and they were just turning out terrible. I couldn’t get the right lighting, focus, or anything. I decided to try the balcony since natural light is always the beast and i’d be getting a good amount of it out there. They turned out great I think. I was able to capture everything how I wanted. I’m leaning more towards full body shots now too rather then the split top to bottom looks I had been doing since the start of the outfit series.
None the less a bit about the outfit.
I have found more interest into vintage styles lately such as late seventies and mid eighties. I find it’s a look that suits me well and that I’m comfortable in. I mean come on, we all can’t look as good in a blazer/ suit as a zara model let alone be fully comfortable in a blazer or sport coat. I still want to get my hands on some colored ones I must admit though.Something I have always liked was the collar and sweater combination. I’m wearing jumpers as much as I can and if that’s not an option I definitely like a collared shirt whether it be a button up or polo. The combination of the two is an appealing style I think. It can add the perfect amount of color, fun, or detail to an outfit. It’s kind of like wearing a tie in a way. The jacket is a piece that I inherited through my dad. It has a nice vintage look and it’s nice and warm. I find myself wearing it quite often now that I am experiencing colder weather over here. When I first got the job at AA I bought this belt right away. I’ve always liked it whenever I saw it in their ads and liked it even more in person. It’s such a nice tannish brown with a buttery smooth finish. Reminds me a lot of my same colored asos derby shoes I love to wear. Last but not least I finally purchased a pair of loafers. It was a tough search to find the right pair but I had always had my eye one these from River Island. They just happened to have a few days of free international shipping during my hunt for the perfect pair. I thought it was meant to be so I went for it and turned out to be an excellent purchase. They’re exactly what I was looking for. Nothing to dressy or casual and with the perfect amount of minimal detail.

This is part of a group costume: my twin sister, her boyfriend, my niece and I were the Powerpuff Girls and their creator, Professor Utonium! I was the leader, Blossom (:
I love to have DIY costumes that consist of clothes I can wear on other occasions too. This dress was on sale and although it fit a little big I thought that it perfectly captured the style of Blossom’s costume as well as her personality. All I had to do was take the sides in a little bit. I added a thick black satin ribbon from Hobby Lobby around the waist, a pair of white tights, and black flats. A large red bow made of satin ribbon tying up my curly red hair completed the look. I also painted my nails in pink, baby blue, and green stripes to add some more detail to the outfit.
